Poem-Untitled

By, Joni (written in 1990 at age 17)

Like a rainbow after a storm,

A cozy blanket to keep my warm,

Such as a winter day with snow brand new,

I thank God for a friend like you.

Not even the softest pillow, or warmest fire

Can lift me up or take me higher

Than when you are right here with me.

Your smile is a blessing to see.

But now, to see a flower dying,

Or even a small child crying,

These things can’t compare to the sorrow

Of knowing that I won’t see you tomorrow.

Like the sun sets at the end of the day,

Or autumn comes, and summer fades away,

I’m leaving and we must go on with our lives,

But still the tears come to my eyes.

But there is still a flower that blooms in spring,

A song that is still left to sing.

Down the road our paths will cross

And hopefully no friendship will be lost.
