story
*Toby wanders into kitchen*
Toby: Hey, what are you doing?
Me: I'm baking cookies.
Toby: Can I help?
Me: Absolutely!

story
Toby: What kind of cookies are we going to make?
Me: Peanut butter chocolate chip, check out the recipe.
Toby: Yum, these sound good!
Me: Trust me, they are.

story
Me: I've already put in the 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of peanut butter.
Toby: What's next?

story
Me: 1 cup sugar, here it comes.
Toby: Excellent.
Me: I also added 1 cup of brown sugar.

story
Toby: Here are the 2 eggs!
Me: Thanks!

story
Me: Watch your fingers, hon, I don't want them to get bumped when I turn the mixer on.

story
*Toby watches mixer*
Toby: What next?

story
Me: Now we add 2 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
*Toby adds ingredients as I list them*

story
Me: *laughs* You have some flour on your face.
Toby: Oh well.

story
Me: Now that it's all mixed we can add the chocolate chips, 1 cup.
Toby: But the recipe says 2 cups!
Me: I know, but trust me, 1 cup is plenty.
Toby: Why aren't we using the mixer?
Me: Sometimes the chips jam the mixer, it's better to do this part by hand.
Toby: Can I do it?
Me: Sure!
Toby: *pant, grunt, strain*
...
...
...an hour later...

story
Toby: I'm exhausted, but it's mixed...hey, I wanted to lick the mixer!
*my son licks mixer beater*

story
Toby: I guess I'll just have to grab a taste this way.
Me: Help yourself.
Toby: Ah...yum!

story
Me: These are almost ready to bake, how do they look so far?
Toby: Can you make some smaller ones? You know...
Me: Sure...

story
Me: How's this?
Toby: Perfect!

story
Toby: Baking is hard work, can I have a drink?

story
Toby: Are they done yet?
Me: Patience!

story
Toby: Ah, here they are, let's let them cool off for a bit.

story
Me (pats Toby's head): Thanks for the help.
Toby: No problem, it was fun!
